One Book, One School 2015-2016
We are pleased to announce that the book for the 2015-2016 One Book One School program has been chosen.  The choice is the young adult science fiction novel The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.  This book is the first installment in the trilogy of novels. Critics have compared the book favorably to The Hunger Games and The Road, and noted that it "should do for aliens what Twilight did for vampires." Sony Pictures is planning a film adaptation scheduled for release January 15, 2016.

As always, we will have activities and lessons planned across all subject areas related to this book.  Copies of the books will be distributed to students during the final days of the this school year and throughout the summer.  Please keep an eye on our One Book, One School webpage for more information as it becomes available by clicking HERE.

Brief Plot Synopsis
The 5th Wave follows 16-year-old Cassie Sullivan as she tries to survive in a world devastated by the waves of alien invasion that have already decimated the population and knocked humankind back to the Stone Age. As one of Earth's last survivors, Cassie is left with just herself and has to learn the hard way to trust no one. Throughout the story, Cassie must pass multiple obstacles to save her brother Sammy.

Pemberton Anti-Bullying Program: Building a "Climate of Respect"
Harrassment, Intimidation, and Bullying - The Board believes that a safe and civil environment in school is necessary for students to learn and achieve high academic standards. Since students learn by example, school administrators, faculty, staff, and volunteers are required to demonstrate appropriate behavior, treating others with civility and respect, and refusing to tolerate harassment, intimidation or bullying. Harassment, intimidation or bullying, like other disruptive or violent behaviors, is conduct that disrupts both a student's ability to learn and a school's ability to educate its students in a safe environment. Therefore, the school district will not tolerate acts of harassment, intimidation or bullying.
